The A2 Assessment Test is given to students who are applying for the Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing program. Students who are taking the PN test will be tested over reading, grammar, vocabulary, math, and critical thinking. Students testing for the RN test will add Anat. & Phys.
You MUST report in by 8:30 to test or your slot will be given to a stand by. Cost of the test is $35. You will be required to show a picture ID.
There will be no testing on August 6th or 13th.

Ouachita Technical College (OTC) is seeking comments from the public about the College in preparation for its periodic evaluation by its regional accrediting agency. The College will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit September 20-21, 2010, by a team representing The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Ouachita Technical College has been accredited by the Commission since 2001. The team will review the institution’s ongoing ability to meet the Commission’s Criteria for Accreditation. All students enrolled in Summer I or Summer II should have received an email with your initial username and password for our emergency notification system (SchoolCast). This email was sent to the email address we have for you in our Student Information System. If you did not receive this email, it may be because your email address on file is wrong or missing from our system.
If you have any questions about our emergency notification system or did not receive the email and need to establish an account, contact the helpdesk at 501.332.0285 or studenthelp@otcweb.edu. You may also update your email address on file through your Self-Service account. 5/20/2010 - Community Kitchen Survey
Ouachita Technical College and U of A Cooperative Extension Service are attempting to assess the community need for a USDA/FDA certified community Kitchen which will be located on the campus of Ouachita Technical College. This kitchen could be available many hours in the day or night for production cooking, baking, canning or bottling. If you have a favorite receipt that you would like to perfect and sell at restaurants, grocery stores, on-line or at farmer markets you could use this community kitchen for those purposes. If you are a farmer and raise raw products and want to can or bottle your crops / products you could use this community kitchen.
Our only requirement is that you attended a 15 to 20 hour training session on best practices, safety measures, and the art of labeling in selling your products. If you know someone that would have an interest in this certified Community Kitchen please pass this information on to them. Congratulations! The completion of your studies at Ouachita Technical College is rapidly approaching. The schedule of graduation activities includes 1) Graduation Practice in Malvern High School Auditorium at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2010; 2) Graduation Saturday, May 8, 2:00 p.m. in the Malvern High School Auditorium. Graduates should arrive by 1:15 p.m. and go to the cafeteria to complete robing and to line-up; 3) The Reception immediately following the graduation ceremony is in the Malvern High School Cafeteria. There is not a limit to the number of guest that you may have at either the ceremony or the reception.

Spring and Summer Graduates
Are you graduating? Are you completing your course of study for a technical certificate or an associate degree in spring 2010 or in summer I, II, III 2010? If so, you must apply for graduation. Download the Application for Graduation, complete it and return to Linda Johnson, Registrar in Student Affairs. Return applications by March 17, 2010.
Cap and gown may be ordered free of charge in the Ouachita Technical Bookstore. The order must be placed by March 17, 2010.
2/25/2010 - Library Book Exchange
If you want a book to read in your free time, take one from the Book Exchange. You can keep the book as long as you want; there are not due dates or late fees.
If you have a book you don't want anymore, leave it at the Book Exchange so others can enjoy it; all the books in the Book Exchange are donations from students, faculty, and staff.
The Book Exchange is located on a cart in the front of the Library next to the children’s books. Stop by and see what is available.

2/15/2010 - No test of our emergency notification system 02/15
There will be no test of our emergency notification system on February 15th as we had a very good response to the emails and text messages sent out the week prior announcing the early distribution of PELL refunds.

2/11/2010 - Pell Refund Check Distribution
Due to the threat of inclement weather on Friday, OTC will begin to distribute Pell refund checks today (Thursday) beginning at 3:00 pm. in the Business Office. Someone from the business office will be here to distribute checks on Friday, regardless of the weather conditions.
2/10/2010 - 2008 Doctorate Recipients with CC Credits
It is well documented that 2-year college students do well at the next level – at the university. A University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) source indicates that 80% of its bachelor degree graduates have college credits earned from a college other than UALR. Now, new research shows that 2-year college students also do well at the highest levels of university graduate schools. New research on 2008 doctoral recipients shows 1 in 5 (almost 20%) earned college credits from a community college.
Dr. Jim Purcell, State Higher Education Director, is proud of that and sent out the notice about this new finding.
2/10/2010 - Possible Name Change Information
As Ouachita Technical College approaches its twentieth year as a college, the institution is entering a new phase in its history and for a variety of reasons, OTC should consider a new name. The current name fosters a misperception, conveying a limited scope of the college. As OTC enters an important era in its history, a new name will add to the awareness that the college is fulfilling its mission in diverse ways. The new name will not only reflect the currency of the variety of educational services of the college, but it will position the college for growth and expansion in the years to come. Renaming the institution will convey to the community a more dynamic approach to the multi-faceted mission of the college.

2/2/2010 - You're invited to join OTC's BCM
Baptist Collegiate Ministry or BCM, the largest collegiate organization of Christian students in Arkansas and in the United States, is interested in recruiting students to participate in the BCM student organization at Ouachita Technical College. Some of the purposes of BCM are to encourage student fellowship, to develop leadership skills, and to organize students for service and ministry projects, both on- and off-campus. 1/27/2010 - Campus Alert System Test Results
A test of our emergency notification system was conducted on Monday, January 25th. This test was done using all communication methods available (text message, email, telephone messages). If you did not receive these messages, it may be because you have not updated your contact information in SchoolCast. You should have received an email with your username and password to SchoolCast in order to add your contact information.
If you did not receive this email or do not remember your login information, stop by the helpdesk located on the second floor of the Arts & Science building for assistance. The helpdesk can be reached at 501.332.0285. The only way to receive emergency notifications is to make sure you have the correct contact information in SchoolCast.
We plan on conducting a second test sometime in the next few weeks so you still have time to update your information.

1/13/2010 - Campus Alert System Changes (SchoolCast)
Due to changes in how information is stored in our student information system, changes to how we load contact information into our emergency alert system has changed. We will no longer upload telephone or mobile phone contact information for students each semester. We will upload the email address we have on file and a user name and password will be sent to that address to access our emergency alert system (SchoolCast). Once you receive this login information, you will need to update your telephone contact information. This system will be used to notify you of campus closings and emergencies. To help ensure your safety, you are encouraged to list at least one telephone contact i.e. your mobile number or home number.

11/30/2009 - VA Education Benefits Press Release
The Department of Veterans Affairs has made funds available for Veteran students who are still awaiting their education benefit claim to be processed. Eligible veterans can receive up to a $3000 advance, which will be recouped from future benefit payments. If you are a student who applied for one of VA’s education programs and have not yet received your monthly benefit payment for the Fall 2009 term, you can request a one-time advance payment at your local VA Regional Office or through VA’s website, www.va.gov.

The LPN Pinning Ceremony has been rescheduled for Friday Dec. 11, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church on Main St. in Malvern, Arkansas. This is due to the Malvern Christmas Parade that was also scheduled the same night on Thursday Dec. 10, 2009.

SAEA would like to say a big THANK YOU to Kathy and Pat for their wonderfully gracious participation in the Pie in the Face contest. Kathy came in top finisher at the last moment (thanks to David) and Pat came in second. The preliminary amount raised is around one hundred fifty five dollars and we will send out the final amount once the bank counts all those pennies!

Sean Michel is a Christian musician who hails from Bryant, Arkansas. He is known for his appearance on American Idol Season 6. In summer of 2009, he released an 8 song EP titled “I Know I’ve Been Converted,” and continues to gain a growing fan base worldwide. Sean makes an impression with his long hair and beard, but is most remembered for his soulful vocal style.

6/16/2009 - Authors visit OTC Library next Tuesday June 23rd
Please mark your calendars to attend the book discussion of A Long Hard Road to Freedom by co-authors Mr. Petrus Lai Nguyen and Ms. Derlyne Gibson next Tuesday, June 23rd at 10 a.m. in the OTC Library magazine section. From Vietnam to Arkansas, this is the story of one man’s courageous pursuit of freedom. They will discuss their book and offer a question and answer session, and be available for autographs. This is part of the “If All Arkansas Read the Same Book” campaign and we are lucky to have been chosen as one of their stops across Arkansas during June.
6/11/2009 - Emergency Alert System Test
On June 24th, OTC will be conducting a test of our Emergency Alert System. All students should have received an email with their username and password to our alert system. If you have not received this email it may be because your information is incorrect in our student information system. Contact the helpdesk for assistance in getting your username and password. Prior to the test on the 24th, please update your information in our alert system. Remember that any information you update in the alert system will not update your information in our student information system. 6/11/2009 - Updating Your Ethnicity and Race
In order to comply with new federal reporting requirements, everyone needs to update their race and ethnicity. You can do this through Self-Service by logging in to your account and click the My Profile tab. You will see the Ethnicity and Race link. Once you have updated/verified your information, don’t forget to click the save button at the bottom of the page.
6/8/2009 - Online Course Maintenance
There will be a short downtime on the Blackboard server starting at 8:30 AM on June 19, 2009. This downtime is required to facilitate license renewal on the server software. Expect this downtime to last around 20 minutes.
